A few years ago I owned the ‘Magic Bullet’. For those of you unfamiliar – it’s a small bullet shaped blender with a high speed blade and plastic mixer cups that second as drinking cups. It was fine for the time. It didn’t do a great job of pulverizing ingredients. You could only add a few ingredients because you needed a lot of liquid or else the mixture would grind to a halt. I used it many times to make fruit/vegetable drinks with frozen produce but after a while I got tired of it and so I just sold it at a garage sale. At the same time I was taking dietary supplements and really trying to eat better, but it still wasn’t a way of life. But that was then – and this is now.
Tonight I’m purchasing a Ninja Pro Blender that I plan on using to make vegetable / fruit smoothies on a regular basis. Maybe 3-4 times per week. I’m doing this for a few different reasons but mostly because I am convinced that I need more vegetables. It’s very important to me (and has been on my mind a lot over the past couple months) to increase my daily vegetable intake. I’ve tried to do this as part of meal planning, but the fact is I am not a big vegetable lover – there are so many I just won’t touch. Using a juicer will allow me to buy some fresh produce items like kale, swiss chard, collards, beets, spinach, sprouts, wheat and barley grass etc. A bunch of things that are affordable and can easily be blended into a great tasting smoothie by adding banana, apple (berries, oranges) etc. I’ll also save money by not throwing away fruit with soft / brown spots. I can cut and freeze them for future use. I like that idea. Basically I believe I am at the place right now where I would make the absolute most of a Ninja Juicer. It’s not too expensive and it has a very powerful blade mechanism that pulverizes seeds, cores, stems, skin and flesh, so no waste. It also grinds produce down to the cellular level for easy nutrient absorption. I’ll post an update after a few days of use. J Meanwhile…
