Speaking of dietary supplements… one
category of products frequently in the news, and relentlessly marketed is
‘weight-loss’, second only to male enhancements. It's hard to imagine anything more
on the minds of American’s than the battle of the bulge... but it's a close second.
Weight-loss supplements have earned
a bad reputation over the years for serious side effects, and I can’t say it’s
entirely undeserved. They (along with male enhancements) have a history of
containing ingredients that can be harmful, deadly and in some cases illegal.
Ephedrine for instance, was one of the most popular appetite suppressants on
the market. However, it was found to cause liver damage and eventually banned
from dietary supplement use in March 2006 when the House passed the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005.
If you’re looking for a dietary
supplement to reinforce your weight-loss efforts, choose a product from a reputable
company and be careful to follow the directions for use. Keep in
mind that problems tend to arise when we expect ‘miracles’ in a bottle. There’s
no such thing. We’re not going to eat anything we want and then pop a bunch of
pills to prevent or eliminate fat. Just not gonna happen.
Here’s a list of some popular weight
loss ingredients and their functions:
1. Appetite Suppressant (i.e.
Korean pine nut, saffron extract– non stimulants)
2. Starch Blocker (i.e. White kidney beans)
3. Satiety Enhancer (i.e. P12 potato extract)
4. Metabolism Booster (i.e. Capsicum, curcumin)
5. Fat Cell Shrinker (i.e. Raspberry ketones)

This journey is challenging, we all need support of some kind – absolutely
nothing wrong with that. Let’s just protect ourselves in the process. No need
to go blind…
