Beat the Rains!

Yes, the skies turned dark and the small drops fell – but I’m tucked away safe at home effectively beating the thunderstorms and potential flooding that is on the way!

Had a great day today – up and out very early. Had breakfast at the diner, then headed right to Riverhead outlets. Did a lot of walking (and sitting). Got some new tops (couldn’t resist, the prices were too good). Some new Pyrex at the Corningware – Correll outlet. No way we could go to the pow wow today, but we decided next labor day weekend we will stay overnight in the hamptons and do the pow-wow then the outlets the following day.

Okay, had a big calorie day – but I also walked and stretched more than usual so I’m okay with that. I’ll now have to drive the daily average down to 1750. I’m at 1809 right now – the goal is to have it down by Wednesday. J

Meanwhile, tracker is below. You’ll notice no dinner calories – I don’t need dinner tonight, I’m still full after 6pm. I’ll have some grapes later (maybe) and that’s it.

Short and Sweet



It was a wonderful day. Got in some walking, sunshine and fresh air. I have company this evening for dinner - made a pot of homemade organic meat sauce - (delish!). Taking a quick break to answer an email and post my blog.

Tomorrow I will put ALOT of steps on the pedometer as we head to the Tangers in Riverhead. We may even go to the Shinnecock pow wow in Southhampton afterwards (if we're not totally wiped). We'll see. We may have to go next year. 100 Indian Nations represented at the pow wow. Its suppose to be an amazing day. I'll let you know if we make it their.

Here's to a long weekend!


The Labor Day weekend is here and so I’m starting this post by telling you what that means to me. First, it’s a 3 day weekend that I’m very much looking forward too. The weather is going to be beautiful which is great because I have some outdoor plans. It also sort of feels like the end of summer (but in fact there are still 3 weeks left). So, I plan on getting lots of exercise. My goal to get more compliant with the no carbohydrates after lunch is going well. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

The Best Part


There is another really cool thing that happened yesterday that I failed to mention (can’t believe I forgot!) I went under 300lbs! I’m at 295 – Yay!  I started this year at close to 360lbs and the year isn’t over – but I’m already at 295 – and entering Month #9! It’s really been a very exciting and interesting experience since the first day I started. And if I had to choose just one single thing that I love most about the entire experience it wouldn’t be the weight loss, or the new eating habits, or health benefits, or my physical fitness progress, or even that my joints are starting to feel much better, no, if I had to choose just one thing it would absolutely be gaining control and being disciplined. To be able to decide what to eat and what not to eat every day is such a joy.
But let me tell you - this did not happen overnight – not even close. It took a few months before I even realized that I could do that. The first 2 months (were actually December and January) and they were very difficult months. I knew I had to figure this out so I could do it ‘my way’ as the song says, but I wasn’t sure what that looked like exactly and so I started trying a bunch of different things until finally, around the 3rd week of January I landed on food journaling which quickly grew to include calorie counting and then of course the natural transition for me was to do a case study. I finally found something that worked well for me. From the first day I started recording calories I noticed a change. But it still wasn’t enough – something was missing. I needed accountability – and that’s where blogging came in. And then someone suggested I also create a community for additional support and well here we are starting month #9. I’m so excited looking forward to the months ahead because there’s still so much that hasn’t been done and so much on my mind that I want to accomplish, but it’s gonna take time. And, time I’ve got, because I know that the next 9 months will come and go whether I lose weight, get physically fit, and healthier or not. So for me, this is a no-brainer.
