Know Thyself




So I have a big challenge that I’ve been hoping would work itself out if given enough time, but that just isn’t happening and I am unwilling to wait any longer. Besides trying to get back into my non-holiday routine I am now dealing with an even bigger issue. I’m leaving for work earlier in the morning (as is my winter custom) so I’ve been eating breakfast earlier (approx. 6:30am which is 60+ minutes early). Additionally, I recently cut my cereal portion from 1.5c to 1c in keeping with portion control goals I’ve set for 2015. My body isn’t happy with any of these changes and refuses to adapt. So, in spite of the usual nutritious nutra-blast smoothie (20oz) and large caffeinated coffee w/milk (16oz) around 9am, I still feel deprived and it’s causing me crave more food and I’m not at all happy with that. 

So I have to come up with a solution and this is what I’ve decided. Since my body is cemented to the idea of eating breakfast around 7:30-7:45, I’m going back to that - effective Monday. I’ll bring my breakfast with me to the office and have it there. I’ll still have my smoothie but I’ll have it at home rather than on-the-go. This way I can still enjoy my morning home routine which includes sitting in the living room and enjoying 20-30 minutes of a DVR’d program (60 minutes earlier than usual, but I feel that might be okay). I’m hoping my body will consider this “back to normal” and be okay with it. Further, I will increase the cereal portion back to 1/5c and slowly wean myself to 1c over the next few weeks. A couple of teaspoons less every week should do the trick. I’ll keep you posted.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that fighting myself is a waste of time and energy. I need to know myself and work within the confines of my strengths and weaknesses. I will always ‘step out’ and try things, but maturity dictates that I retreat and regroup if and when necessary so that I’m always moving forward and making progress. These are constructive changes that I believe will work. I will keep you posted! Meanwhile…
