Giving a Thought...

If I could, I would eat the same meal 3 times a day every day for the rest of my life. I’d pick something filling yet nutritious, full of color and flavor. That would certainly be the easiest way to lose weight. But life just isn’t like that. I wake up every day and have to pick and choose what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat. It’s a lot to think about. Consider this, if you don’t care about what you eat, then your decisions will be guided by what you feel like eating, what would make you happy? A ham & cheese hero, a huge bowl of lasagna, a pint of Hagaan Daz etc. You get the picture. But when you’re trying to shed pounds you have to consider everything you eat – you have to pre-plan meals (that includes shopping), you have to be careful not to use to much butter or oils and you have to measure things out like sauces and spreads to insure that you don’t use more than you’ve allotted for. If in addition to losing weight you want to be healthy (and why wouldn’t you) you must also be sure to include lots of natural choices like fresh produce, fish, lean meat, whole and multi grains, while losing many of the unhealthy choices such as sugar, butter, oil, salad dressings, fast food, excess anything. Basically if you’re gonna be of normal weight and healthy you're going to have to do it deliberately, and it’s gonna take a lot of planning and effort – every single day of your life.

To be fair, there are a few people in this life that have a natural propensity for thinness. They don’t work at it, they simply do not overeat, they don’t eat too much sweets or junk foods, they don’t need to control portion sizes because they eat like birds and their weight is always normal. They love to exercise and do it all the time. They look great in clothes, all the time. Most people know 1 person like this. But guess what? I am not that person.

To make things easier for myself I often eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch while dinner tends to change. Since I’m able to do this without getting bored I take full advantage of it. But still there is a lot of work involved in the day to day planning, preparing and documenting. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Let's face it, the food industry desperately wants our dollars and they'll kill us with food to get it. We are bombarded with food and food advertising - so if we're going to be healthy and thin we have to do it aggressively. We have to fall in love with ourselves and the thought of being healthy. I love the entire process. I love waking up in the morning and the first thing on my mind is exercise and nutrition – I also go to bed with this on my mind every single night. It’s a total transformation in my mind and trust me, the body is following. It’s a considerably better way to live and I absolutely love it and highly recommend it.
Today was upper body strength training. Nice.
