A Unique Anniversary


Today marks one month without coffee. I love this decision. My body was totally hooked on caffeine and now that’s all over. Thank goodness. The first 2 weeks was a real challenge -- I’m actually surprised it wasn’t longer. I’ve been a coffee drinker for more than 30 years so believe me this is a very significant change. 

My mood, appetite, energy levels, digestion, sleep, nervous system, cardiovascular and circulatory systems were all effected by this change. But now one month later and I'm no longer bloated, my appetite has adjusted to the switch from coffee to water. I think almost everything except sleep is back to normal. My sleep patterns are finding their way back though. I’m still getting 8 hours a night but when I get up to go to the B/R about 2am and don’t go back till 3-3:30am, that’s disruptive. Last night I started watching Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire with Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando. It’s hard to be upset.

July is turning out to be quite a phenomenal month – my discipline muscles are being stretched and strengthened. So far I’ve tackled coffee, gum chewing, pickles, alcohol, paleo dinners, increased walking, strength training and stretching, increasing vegetables, moving to new place, stair climbing daily (several times), and the other thousand things that had to be done to effect the move. Yes, an amazing month so far – and still 9 more days to go! I told you – calorie tracking and journaling slows the clock to a crawl. And in the final analysis, that may very well be the greatest benefit of all..

There is one thing I definitely need to do more work on -- stretching. My legs feel great. My walking has increased. I’ve been doing a lot more stretching than usual, but I still need to do more. The muscles in my legs get very tight. So much so that when I was doing a good calf stretch Sunday morning I almost cramped up my hamstring. Geez. I need to stretch more frequently. You’ll see something about stretching on new August goals.
 
P.S. My daily average is under 1750 - I'm pushing for 1700 by Friday!
